Splash Dogs

Over the course of the few years our black lab Drake has become a maniac jumper! Meaning when we get home he literally jumps probably about 5 feet just standing in place because he's so excited we are home. Well we are avid hunters so we attend the Sportsmen's Expo every year in Sacramento and we saw a competition for dogs called Splash Dogs. Two years ago we entered him but then we had to back out due to work on the weekend, then last year the same thing happened again but then this past January we were able to enter him and attend! Well needless to say we we're like a bunch of worried parents but not for children but a dog hoping he would do well in his jump. Splash Dogs is a dock jumping competition where the dogs jump off of a 20 foot ramp into a 30 foot pool. While they jump to retrieve their toys, bumpers, balls etc they are measured on how far they can jump there is a camera that takes the photo while they jump it's analyzed and then given a score from where their tail meets their body that is the length they jumped.

At Cal Expo's Drake jumped in a Wave/Heat and placed First jumping 19 feet 6 inches, which automatically placed him in the open finals. We continued on to Open Finals where he was robbed of 1st place by a dog that had been jumping only 16 feet the whole day and then during finals he pulled out a 21 footer. Well Drake still did really good jumping 19 feet 8 inches. He got 2 ribbons that are now proudly displayed at home.

So this past weekend we entered him in another Splash Dogs competition in Auburn called the Jump for Cash. Cash was a dog that passed away at only the age of two so it's in memory of him. Well Drake did GREAT! He jumped better and farther than he has in the past jumping in at 19 feet 10 inches then 21 feet 1 inch. Which anything over 20 feet is considered pro. So he won his wave/heat and then proceeded to the Pro Finals. Where he sadly didn't jump as far but still improved overall seeing that we have only done this twice and it was extremely hot out.

Being a black lab doesn't help but we had plenty of water and shade ready for the big guy. We also brought our Yorkie Harley with us and he did great being a cheerleader for his brother. So the day ended on a good note we got another blue ribbon for his wave and then he placed 7th place with his final jumps at 20 feet 8 inches and 20 feet 1 inch. They always jump twice in each wave/final and they take the better score of the two. So his 20 feet 8 inches put him in 7th.

We might even think about jumping our Yorkie soon too as there is a lap dog competition, there were two other Yorkie's that jumped about 6 feet even a wiener dog with a life saver on as well!
