Backpacking It

This past weekend I had the luxury of taking some vacation days off early last week from Wednesday till this past Monday. It was our first of many new adventures of backpacking!
We hiked in from Loon Lake in the Sierra Nevada's for about a 4-5 mile hike into Spider Lake. My pack weighted 32 pounds and Dustin's weighed about 43 pounds and poor Drake has to pack his own food in too! You didn't think we would let him get away with his parents holding his weight of food? That dog eats ALOT! The funny thing about Drake is that the hike is pretty rocky and we were told to have dog booties for him because their pads of their feet get pretty beat up so he has little dog booties on with a backpack too! It was hilarious to watch the first few minutes of him trying them on because it looks like a newborn giraffe trying to walk.
Aside from the weight of our packs the hike was relatively easy it took about 2 and a half hours to hike in, the last part was a steel incline which wasn't fun. But we made it and it's a gorgeous hike with the lake in the background and the sun in your eyes.We went fishing for most of the time and the rest of it was enjoyed in the "living room" of the forest that the group has been in the makes of for the last few summers of rock couches! Seen here-
We caught 3 fish - which I didn't catch any and I'm very upset about but other than that it was a fun trip and we'll definately be doing it again soon! We might even bring along the little guy (Harley)!
