Well I've told you all before I was on a strike from strange red meats. So instead of red meat we went out for a Pheasant Hunt. Today is the last day of the season for us here in Northern California and his family belongs to a Pheasant Club where you buy a "card" for pheasants. We did it once and had a 20 bird card, over the season you can shoot up to 20. But that season I wasn't a hunter, I was a walker. Well not anymore folks! Last August I took my hunters safety class and got my hunting license! I went deer hunting but we didn't see anything so that was an unsuccessful trip. But not yesterday my friends.. I got one! Let me tell ya I was never the girl who ANYONE would have thought would eat a strange animal let alone shoot it.
Not anymore.. Here is me and my first pheasant!
I wasn't strangling it either if your thinking "Geeze chick let the bird go!" Their necks are really tiny so I'm holding it gently. I used his Dad's shotgun it's a 20 gauge and I was terrified it would have a huge kick back but I didn't feel a thing! I got it on the first shot!
Sorry little hen I'm sure you led a great life until you met me, you'll be tasty for dinner...
He is a proud boyfriend! I was so nervous to finally shoot the shotgun but it was EASY peasy!
The dogs that make it all possible! Cheyenne a German short hair pointer and Drake a Labrador retriever. Cheyenne points them out, Drake flushes them and they both call it at day.
They were tired doggies after a long day in the field but I bet Cheyenne could still go sniff out some more birds, where as Drake was alittle out of the game we haven't taken him hunting in awhile.
A few of the birds and the only rooster out of the bunch of 20 birds we got.
I never would have thought that I would have gone from a girl who wouldn't dare touch a raw piece of chicken to having a bird in my hand.. Eek! Sorry if this grossed anyone out, but I'm very proud of myself because I never in my life thought I would be a girl that goes hunting and shoots a shotgun or eats all these crazy things.
