If You Really Knew Me..

I'm joining in on the MTV idea of If You Really Knew Me... I saw previews for the show, but I haven't had a chance to watch it.  It reminded me alot of my sorority days, where girls have preconceived opinions about each other, so at chapter retreats we would try to break the boundaries and show everyone that we are all alike and similar but different.

If You Really Knew Me.. You'd Know That...

  • I come from a divorced family and it's still fresh it's only been 6 years now and things are still akward sometimes.
  • My dad remarried and I thought it wouldn't bother me but the day he told me I cried for hours.
  • I have a little brother who is 8 years younger than me, I strain to hopefully have a better relationship with him one day but it's hard being so far apart in age.
  • I sadly don't have a great relationship with my father.  Not that I don't want to but we don't see eye to eye on alot of things and he doesn't trust in me that I'm following the path I've set out for myself and I know what's good and not good for myself.  Watching any movie that has a strong father daughter bond in it makes me sad regardless of how funny the movie might be.
  • I never really had a close relationship with my grandparents.  My closest grandparents in the area were around the corner from our family.  The only problem for the grand kids is that they spoke only Cantonese.  There for I wasn't able to have a strong bond with them.  My dad's parents lived in Oregon and while we were able to visit alot I never was close enough with them and they passed away when I was young.
  • I was on a bowling league for 5 years in grade school.  I'll still knock your socks off on the alley.
  • I played piano for 13 years but never had a recital.
  • I watch Harry Potter on a weekly basis.  If nothing else is on I'll watch Harry Potter.
  • I played competitive soccer for 15 years and stopped when I got to college due to a back injury, but I was offered scholarships to numerous colleges across the nation.  Which overall I'm happy I didn't play otherwise I think school would have been different for me.
  • I don't like to be alone.  I think it comes with being a Libra I always like to have people around me.  I used to always ask my roommates where they were going, when they were coming back.
  • I'm afraid to speak up, I'm more of a passive person.  If I have to speak up I will but most of the time I'll sit back and listen and let others take control.  Often my feelings will get hurt but I won't express that because I brush it off.
  • On the other side I am very controlling when it comes to work and or play.  I can fly by the seat of my pants on some days and other days I need to know exactly what is happening and when it's going to happen.  Another sign of being a Libra.
  • I've had people disrespect the fact that I'm Chinese and had to play it off like it didn't hurt my feelings.
  • I type almost 90-95 WPM.  You play Wii, I play typing tests.
  • I am a huge multi tasker.  Right now I'm pulling a web report, reading posts on google reader, checking my email, sending a email and creating a power point presentation.
  • I have had over 20 hamsters in my life.
  • I can't seem to keep any fish alive.
  • I never ate fish until my junior year in college.
  • I can eat Chinese food everyday for the rest of my life.
  • I have my belly button pierced and my dad doesn't know (well he might now if he finds out I have a blog).  I got it when I was 15.
  • I'm sometimes short with people and I need to work on it.  It's not because of you, it's probably because I'm multi tasking and I shouldn't be. I'm working on it.
  • I am a thrifty shopper.  Almost everything I own is from Ross you'll never find me at Nordstroms or Macys unless it's some out of control sale that I have to stop at.  I'm wearing a dress from Express that I bought at Ross for $12.99 from 4 years ago.
  • I graduated with a degree from Radio and Television and I actually am using my degree while working in television.
  • I was the only girl out of all boy cousins for years until my other girl cousin came along.  Because of this I can play legos, ninja turtles and micro machines with the best of them along with make a mean mud pie and catch huge frogs.
  • Speaking of frogs I'll freak out over any frog.  Like I'll have to capture it to say hello and then release it back into the wild.  It drives my honey nuts but I love the little things.
  • I got my first pedicure at the age of 20.
  • I never wore pants until 7th grade.  Only dresses.
  • I've never lost someone close to me and I fear how I will react when something like that happens.
I think I really want to watch this show now because it's  good reminder of how you should always treat others around you because you don't know who they are unless you really do know them.

You sound a lot like me with the whole kinda estranged family thing. I haven't seen my parents in over a year we just are like that I guess. That's pretty unique that you only wore dresses till the seventh grade! :-)

My parents divorced when I was 7 and my dad remarried when I was 21. They eloped and I cried for a week. I didnt speak to her for 2 years. I totally get you. we have a ton in common btw. I could list it all but it would be an abnormally long comment.

That show is truly refreshing, as is your openness in this post. It's actual quite a genius idea. Can you image what we would all learn about one another if we were brave enough to be as forthcoming as you!?

I'm the same way when it comes to being spontaneous but also needing to know what's going on most days.
I didn't wear pants till I was 11. I slept in pj's but in public I always wore either dresses or shorts.
I love this!

I loved reading this post :) I like how you actually told us imporant/meaningful things where as others just listed what kind of food they like, haha.

You remind me of my brother in the fact that he doesn't like to be alone either - He's also a Libra so maybe it's a Libra thing ;)

You'll never find me in Nordstroms either. I'm always looking for sales.

We're so much alike but I'm going to end the comment here because otherwirse, I'll be writing a post haha.

I love this post! very interesting!

My parents also got divorced somewhat recently and it was (and still is) very hard. Neither of my parents are remarried, but they are both in serious relationships which is just too weird sometimes...
