they are not gel nails

Today I'm going to share a new found love and secret! I used to be a self confessed pink and white acrylic nail girl.  See below those were my pretty $50 nails every 2 weeks maybe 3.. You do the math.. Throw in a pedicure and your at at least 50-60 bucks every few weeks.  EEK! Not good for a family on a budget!

Then after you take those pink and whites off your left with gross nails.  See below..

They are brittle, cracking and peeling everywhere...

So this is why I've taken on this new FAB nail process, which I learned from Jenn @ Perfectly Imperfect

She posted today about her nail tutorial too!!

I'm just showing you how it's gone so far for me too!

Here are my nails currently. Yes those are press on nails! If you ask me I think the press on nails look fabulous even better because they are like .50 cents to do and they don't damage your nails AND I can change the colors alot!  Especially without that sucky stain your nails get after wearing dark colors.  Plus I too bite my nails.  Just make sure if you do this to carry nail glue with you because if one does pop off you don't want ghetto nail girl to come out..

Nail Tutorial

Here's my tutorial on how I just recently learned how to put these bad boys on
Grab your self a set of these they are usually $5.99 at Walgreen's or Wal Mart

Grab your goodies, nail polish remover, polish of choice, nail clippers, nail file, glue and your Kiss 100 pack nail set and tweezers (not pictured)

The first thing I did was grab the tweezers and have them hold onto the end tip of the nail and proceeded to paint them with about 2 coats - personal preference

You can hopefully see there that there is a little tiny spot that isn't painted that's where I was holding the nail with my tweezers.  I did this because I like longer nails you'll see.

After painting them at night and waking up the next morning to fresh DRY nails.  This is important that you let them dry completely as your going to press hard to get them on.

Grab that nail and the approprate finger and press that baby on to the nail.  I don't have a perfect technique for this yet.  I read Jenn's tutorial and she said to put the glue on the nail bed.  I'll attempt that next time because right now I get glue coming out.  So use the glue sparingly.

Once you've pressed on the whole set of nails you'll get them looking like this

Pretty right? Haha just wait.. Trim them down with your nail clippers

This where the painting becomes tricky because if you don't paint it enough you have to make your nail short or re-apply some paint to the missed spot where you held the tweezers at.

Here they are all trimmed and ready for filing

File them down to which ever shape you like, I LOVE square square SUPER square nails

Here they are after they are all squared up

Don't ya love em?! I think they are super pretty and even better than fake nails I mean acrylic!

I've gotten tons of compliments so far and they always think they are gel nails but nope just $5.99 nails that last forever! I've had these on since Friday morning and only one popped off.

Be sure to check out Jenn's Tutorial too!

I bite my nails too :/ and yeah spending way too much money at the nail salon is not ideal for me when trying to budget and wedding plan. Great post, I'll defnitely try :)

I started wearing press on nails last month, too. With moving and such my nails were in rough shape and these worked out fabulously for that quick and cheap fix I needed. I haven't thought to paint them before though. I might have to try that. Your nails look awesome!

Love your tip for using the tweezers!! I would have never thought of that, so maybe now I can try them longer sometimes.
My mom even buys the already painted/colored ones so she can just glue, clip, file and be done.
So happy you posted this too and love that you're loving it!

oh and those press on paint strips by Sally Hansen work great on these too - FYI

Great tutorials from you and Jenn. The next time my nails break and look ghetto, I'm SO trying this out!

This is such a great idea!! I'm going to have to try this out! Does the glue do anything to your nails when you take them off?

Great idea! I wear gel nails too, and I agree it does get a bit pricey especially on a college girl's budget. I usually hold out as long as possible. (My nails don't grow super fast so I can go three sometime four weeks with out a fill in if I am lucky.) I tried the whole "do it yourself" thing a couple years back and I just couldn't seem to get them to look "natural". Do you have an suggestions on how to do that?
