50's Poodle Skirt

Halloween is a fun time of year you can either dress up as a "looker" or take the high road this year and be covered up! LOL I decided that with my re found crafty side I would make the poodle skirt. Here was my adventure. I bought 2 yards of red felt from JoAnn's, then looked up numerous patterns online on how to make a circle skirt.  After tons of results I ultimately went with Andrea's.  Seems simple easy to make and I should be able to reproduce this in different fabrics in order to make some cute ones for spring and summer next year.

Step One: Fold fabric in half, and then in half again and then into a triangle.  Using the measurement of where you want the skirt to sit on your waist do this:
The waist measurement is like the circumference of a circle. Using this measurement, add 2" (for seam allowance), divide by 3.14, then divide by 2. This will give you the radius. For example if your waist measurement is 28", you will get 4.7" as the radius.  So measure 4.7" from the tip down on both sides and make a cone like shape. Now cut that part off.

After you've cut it off it it should look like this.

Then cut off the bottom of the skirt to the length you want your skirt to be.

Once you've done that you should have a full circle.  Now this is where you call your mom for reinforcements because you've cut the hole too big and start freaking out.  So if you have cut your measurement wrong like I did I improvised.  I had plenty of left over fabric so I sewed on a waist line but then couldn't figure out the next step.
That is where you call your mom say I made homemade lasagna and I have leftovers will you help me fix my skirt? She comes over for lunch and VOILA! Problem solved I pretty much could have figured it out on my own but I had a big brain fart and didn't know what to do.  She finished the seams on the waistline that I added then suggested I should close the side up with hook and eyes and she also added on belt loops so that I could have my belt be the support system to the skirt since felt does stretch and I was going to wear a belt anyways it worked out perfect.  I added on a poodle and then hot glued the leash on and look how cute!

My bf was Fonzi which easily was probably the simplest cheapest outfit ever just throw a pair of jeans on roll the pant legs up and stocks. He popped his lens out of his sunglasses (yikes!) and throw the leather jacket on. Adorable and I loved it.
