My New Jewelry Holder!

I finished my jewelry holder!
Here it is with a few earrings on display!

I think it took about 2 weeks start to finish but it would have taken a few hours but of course I wander and find other random things to amuse myself with.

I saw tons of pictures and tutorials on other blogs and Pottery Barn, for jewelry holders and I really wanted to try my hand at one too! I have tons of picture frames that I don't use in my spare room so this was the lucky winner!

Here's how to make one!

Grab yourself a picture frame, this one was made out of wood preferably.  BUT you'll find out shortly that I had a mishap.
Supplies Needed:

Wire Cutters (I had two kinds, I ended up only using the red one because it was smaller.
Staple Gun (This caused my mishap)
Hot Glue Gun  (This fixed my mishap)
Fabric or Scrapbook Paper
Flat Head (Not Necessary but I found it useful later on)
Hardware Fabric (This was about 7.99 or 8.99 at Home Depot, found in the gardening section)
Unwrap your hardware fabric, this is tricky because it's stuck in a roll so you need to flatten it out.  Beware of any manicured nails because the wire ended up poking me a few times as well as taking off bits of my nail polish.
I laid the cardboard backing that was in my frame as my guide to how big I needed to cut my hardware fabric at.  Use your wire cutters and start snipping away.
After you finish cutting the wire make sure it fits into the frame.  You can see here that on the left side my wire was too long so I ended up cutting the wire again.  Tedious job to do since the squares are so tiny.

Once you finish that you could do a variety of things,

Either leave it the way it is with metal exposed and the original frame color.  Or you could paint.

Well I liked the color of the frame so I went ahead and used the staple gun to attach my hardware fabric to the frame.

WRONG my staples were too long so it went through the front of the frame from the back.  That's what my mishap was.

So now I have two yucky holes on the front that's where spray paint became my friend.  I filled the holes with wood putty then sanded it down.  Took the frame and wire outside and primed them.

Enter rain storm in Sacramento with wind, doesn't make for easy spray painting, so a week later I finally have nice weather.  I decided on a Satin Black to paint the frame.  Finally finished spray painting the frame and hardware fabric and we were back in business.

Note to Self - Make sure the spray paint is facing the right way first before you spray.  I now have a snazzy new shirt with spray paint on it.
And might I add I'm not wearing make up..
I just exposed myself to the blog world.
Not only did I get the shirt I got myself too.
Instead of the staple gun I used my hot glue gun and glued the hardware fabric to the inside of the frame.  That's where I used my flat head to hold the wire down flat because it will move on you and you don't want to burn your fingers.

Now I got alittle excited so I didn't take photos of the rest of this process but instead of using scrapbook paper to line the back of the frame I decided to add fabric.  I just hot glued fabric onto the cardboard that came in the frame.  I put the glass over it and laid it down on the wire.  Closed the little tabs and tada!
Like how I'm holding it up? Ya my honey said I could hang it up, but he was right I did need an anchor on the wall so I waited but I was too anxious to not decorate it with my earrings! So here's a few of my collection.  Hello college?! Those top ones are from 80's parties in college.  I don't even recall the last time I've worn them.
And here is are my earrings in their entirety! This helps so much as I used to store all my earrings in these craft container and I had them in a hard to reach place so I never ended up wearing any of my earrings other than my diamond studs my mom gave me.
Now I have a wonderful place to display my earrings and make good use of them too! I eventually plan on screwing in hooks to the bottom of the frame.  That's why I suggested wood, so that I can hang all my necklaces underneath and make better use of those too!

Happy Crafting!

Yay! It turned out great! I love the idea of using the scrapbook paper as a background behind the wire.
