Getting Fit in the Afternoon

I'm lagging today I know.. I'm sorry, forgive me! But as I sat and tried to think of a post I realized that I already had it in mind.  This morning I skipped my morning workout! Close your mouths I know I'm horrible.. I haven't missed a Friday workout since I started getting all hard core on myself.  At lunch I went home and grabbed my workout clothes and told myself I'd hit the gym or the pavement after work.

Since I work out in the morning, I don't have to worry about the heat or conditions outside I just enjoy the morning sun and cool temperatures.  But since were about to enter the high 90's close to 100 this weekend here in Sacramento you might want to watch out for these things while exercising outside in the afternoon heat.

From FitSugar.com
  • Stay hydrated. Drink water before, during, and after your workout to avoid dehydration. Bring along a water bottle, water belt, or hydration pack and sip about four to eight ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Ease into hot outdoor workouts, and don't push yourself too hard. Exercise for less time and at a lower intensity, then gradually build up to longer, harder workouts. Listen to your body, and don't be afraid to take breaks if you need to.
  • Alter your schedule to run during cooler times of the day. Early mornings or late evenings tend to be the best.
  • Run in shady places like the woods, or breezy places like the beach or along a lake.
Want to know what else you should do? Then read more.
  • Wear light-colored and lightweight clothing that's made with fabric that wicks moisture away from your skin and dries quickly. Avoid cotton t-shirts and shorts since they'll get sweaty, stay damp, and make you feel hotter.
  • Wear wicking socks and lightweight sneaks to keep your feet cool and dry, and to prevent blisters.
  • Wear a lightweight hat. It'll absorb the sweat from your head and keep the sun off your face, which will protect your skin and keep you cooler.
  • Wear sweatproof sunscreen that won't drip into your eyes when you perspire. Also be sure to wash your hands after you apply it, so when you go to rub sweat off your face, you won't rub sunscreen in your eyes.
  • For fun, weigh yourself before and after a run. You'll find that you lose a pound or more (it's just water weight). Be sure to rehydrate yourself with 16 ounces of water for every pound you "lose."
UMMmmm... Did I read that correctly? Weigh myself before and after a run? Really? I'll lose a POUND or MORE? I know it's water weight but don't forget I also use these handy things. That's right I use belly bands and let me tell you.. I've lost last time I checked almost 2 inches off my waist.  But that also comes with exercise, diet and more exercise.

My gym bag is starring at me from behind I can feel it saying "No slacking get your saggy butt to the gym." Well it's not saggy A, B I will.. Geeze lay off gym bag.  Bad news.. I locked my Master Lock and I don't remember the code, whoops.  I workout in the morning but haven't had to use the lock in MONTHS so now he's locked and won't open up.  I swear I know the code but it's not coming to me.  Can I call Master Lock?

Anyhoo I'm off for a fun filled weekend in Lake Tahoe with my girlfriends to celebrate a 30th birthday.  The theme is Blue the drinks are heavy, the bikini's are packed and the music is loaded.  Now all I need is a big bottle of champagne.. Or 6..

Stay cool while running off your tushy in the heat today! and have a fun fabulous weekend whatever you do! Be prepared for picture overload on Monday!
