I finally tried out a new recipe! I was on a cooking hiatus when the honey was out of town for work. During that time I go on a cooking hiatus and eat chips and salsa for dinner or salad!
I most definitely made up for that last night with my first two recipes I’ve tried from The Pioneer Woman! And hello AMAZING! She knows how to whip up some yummy meals. I still need to try her Mac & Cheese that Aly told me to make awhile back maybe I’ll whip that up for honey’s birthday this weekend.
Onward.. Here’s the YUMMY recipe that is totally going to be a new staple in my house.
Fried Round Steak from The Pioneer Woman
*If you see her site she obviously has more amazing photos but this is just my go at it for making her wonderful recipes*
Ingredients
- 3 pounds Cube Steak (round Steak That's Been Extra Tenderized)
- 1 cup All-purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Seasoned Salt
- 3 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper, Or To Taste
- Salt, For Seasoning Meat
- ½ cups Canola Oil (more If Needed)
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
*I actually only made my recipe for 1 lb of meat which was three slices of cube steak and just eyeballed the flour, salt and pepper.
Preparation Instructions
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Mix together flour, seasoned salt, and pepper.
Season both sides of steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in flour mixture, pressing to coat with as much flour as possible.
Add butter to pan right before frying.
When butter is melted, fry pieces of steak in butter/oil mixture.
Flip when sides are deep golden brown and cook about 1 minute on the other side.
Remove to a paper towel-lined plate. Serve immediately.
Meanwhile I also tried out one of her potato recipes!
Crash Hot Potatoes by The Pioneer Woman
Ingredients
- 12 whole New Potatoes (or Other Small Round Potatoes)
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- Kosher Salt To Taste
- Black Pepper To Taste
- Rosemary (or Other Herbs Of Choice) To Taste
*I made this with 6 potatoes and rosemary*
Preparation Instructions
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add in as many potatoes as you wish to make and cook them until they are fork-tender.
On a sheet pan, generously drizzle olive oil. Place tender potatoes on the cookie sheet leaving plenty of room between each potato.
With a potato masher, gently press down each potato until it slightly mashes, rotate the potato masher 90 degrees and mash again.
Brush the tops of each crushed potato generously with more olive oil.
*Ummm yaaa, my potato masher isn’t very friendly to the potato, but no matter what they looked liked compared to The Pioneer Woman’s they were delish!
*The more EVOO you spread over it the more crispy they get!*

Sprinkle potatoes with kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper and fresh chopped rosemary (or chives or thyme or whatever herb you have available.)
Bake in a 450 degree oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Then of course I wasn’t suppose to make gravy but it was too delicious to pass up! Especially because I had to redeem myself from the last batch of fried pheasant and gravy I made it was horrible.
Then you eat and eat and eat.
THIS WAS SOOOOOOOO GOOD! Totally the same thing I’m guessing Chicken Fried Steak is made with.
The finished Crash Hot Potatoes!
*Of course this is a human error but I didn’t upload the finished product of the Fried Steak, so I’ll repost the end result later*
